Thanksgiving With Da

We've never had, really, a traditional Thanksgiving. We usually went to Grannny's, and her not really being a cook, and all, we usually had ham, or grilled steak or cube steak. When Granny passed, we began to celebrate over at Mema's, and she would actully do the traditional thing, but then Papa decided to make his own tradition. He does down to Daytona with Bob and the guys to the Turkey Rod Run every year. So, there that went... so this year, as long as Da is on Sapelo, I guess, we have started our own new tradition. LOL! Syb came out to cook at McLeodville, and Michael and Tracy both joined in those festivities. But, Da was on Sapelo all alone... couldn't have that! Wayne and I, the girls and Pepe' hit the Wednesday afternoon ferry and spent the glorious 4 day holiday with Da.

We cooked, and ate and cleaned up. Then hit the couch for a movie or show to sleep through, only to wake in time to worry about what to cook for the next meal. LOL! No joke. All 4 days ~ OOF! I'm still full just thinking about it! We knew we weren't gonna do the turkey and dressing thing, and we were gonna have our big Thanksgiving meal for supper, (grilled steak, fried shrimp and stuffed mushrooms) so for lunch I fixed hot dogs rolled in croissants with cheese and chips. When I called them all in for lunch, I told them their turkey and dressing was ready. When Da got a load of what was actually for lunch, he said, "if that's turkey, I don't even want to know what part it is!". Then he decided they were turkey "schlongs". So, the rest of the weekend when someone would invaritably ask if we had a big Thanksgiving... Da would say, "Yeah, we had turkey schlongs!" LOL!

Michael came over somewhere along the way, and amongst the sand gnats, he, Wayne and the girls managed to get us some oysters picked to roast. He didn't get to stay to enjoy that, but Syb came in just in time to have some. I hate Michael didn't get to reap the rewards of his hard work, but we sure ate his share!

I didn't get any Black Friday deals, but I didn't miss 'em. What a wonderful holiday weekend!
